Ask and You Shall Receive…

Asking. A simple thing is it not? Yet, it can be very hard for some of us to ask others for something. And then there are those who have no problem asking for what they want. What prevents us from asking, and how do we learn to ask for more? More in the sense of asking for more of what is good for us. More happiness, more peace, more love, more freedom… etc.

A lot of times, asking for things brings out a defensive nature in us. Some of us feel that by asking for something we are less than who we want to be… weak, unable to fulfill our own needs. Depending on how big our egos or pride, asking for things is close to impossible. Why should we tell the world that we need anything? We don’t need anything from anyone, right? Wrong. It takes humility to ask others for the things we want or need. That’s why some of us can go for years without asking for help… be it emotional or physical assistance. And then we suffer. Don’t be afraid to ask. You are not a lesser human being for asking. Rather it is the exact opposite, you are a greater human being for asking. It means you acknowledge that you are human, and as a human being you have certain needs and wants, and that you make mistakes and have flaws. How many times do we find it hard to ask for forgiveness or mercy? Many times our pride will provide us a thousand reasons not to ask; reasons that all derive from the mind. And yet, all of us need love… acknowledgment… support… peace… but seldom ask for it. Voice your needs to those around you. Communicate, and never be afraid of the answer. How is it that fear prevents us from asking for what we need? Most of us never ask for fear of the answer. But where does that fear come from? Expectation? The past? Let go of your fears and ask. Be not afraid, but overcome your fears with faith. Faith that your Heavenly Father will heed your requests… using the people and things around you in response.

Most importantly, when you ask, ask with a full heart. Petitions from an empty heart are worthless and destructive. Do not ask from the mind, for it will have no value. Listen to your heart… your soul, and discover what it is asking for. There are those who enjoy asking, who use the grace of asking too often, who abuse it and those who they ask from. Don’t be like those people. Make every request valuable and from the heart. There is shame in asking for too much. Be completely aware of every request you make, and to whom you are asking. Do not ask from those that cannot give, and never take from those that do not have.  And above all, when you are asked of something… always give it, and give it with a willing heart. That is the secret… to give when God asks of you.

Until next time, keep searching!
